On 1 February 2012 a new category of written contracts for 'small jobs' worth between $1,001 and $5,000 was introduced which should provide some administrative relief.
The Home Building Act 1989 provides that residential building work worth between $1,001 and $5,000 must be covered by a 'small jobs' contract which includes the following minimum information:
- the date of the contract
- names and signatures of both parties
- the contractor's licence number
- a brief description of the work, and
- the price (if known).
Residential building work worth more than $5,000 requires a more extensive home building contract.
As a result of the new 'small jobs' contract category there should be less paperwork for those businesses trying to comply with the Home Building Act 1989.
